Hommage à Mr. Jobs (EN)
Hello again,
Let’s take a week off from my investigations into universal search and touch on a subject that flew under few peoples radar; the passing of Steve Jobs. I must admit that I paid little attention to the man during his living years but in the little time that has passed since his passing I am beginning to wish I had.
Now as I learn more and more about Mr. Jobs I realize that maybe I did know him better than I thought. I can remember countless childhood memories of time spent looking at those odd little computers always parked precariously in the corner of some dusty room or crammed into one of my friend’s basements. That iconic symbol was a constant part of my childhood, thought I must admit I rarely saw one turned on let alone put to good use, but by no means does that diminish their significance. In actual fact for me this is somewhat Steve’s story, a tenacious and constant presence in an industry that has seen great men rise and fall faster than the dot com bubble.
I am most moved by his seemingly unshakable vision and unwilting perseverance. We all hear big talk about leaders and leadership, about mission and vision but no matter how you label it the words don’t ever quite seem to be adequate in describing Apple’s number one man. How does one set out to change the world, or was this just a by-product of smaller goals that culminated into the legacy we now have before us? The accomplishments are so numerous that we clearly know that this was a man of great capacity and ability, but his work as a whole is so overwhelming that its weight would surely crush us mere mortals.
But that’s just it, Steve Jobs was a man, he had good and bad days and surely at times his mind might have wondered off to places unknown, maybe to a world where Apple didn’t exist. But just like you and me, he woke up in the morning and put his pants on one leg at a time. So what was a day in the life of Steve Jobs like? I’m not talking about his schedule but more his mind set, how do you manage knowing what has passed and what is surely to come? I’ve always liked the approach of taking it one step at a time, problem is you need to know where you’re going or else you can get lost. What would Steve had thought about this?
Well this video says it all!
Stay hungry stay foolish. If not uttered by another man one might dismiss such a saying, but it’s this simple mantra that fuelled one man to heights seldom seen.
Enjoy!
